MANUFACTURER LISTINGS IN SPECTEXT® AND SPECTEXT® II SECTIONS UPDATED
The manufacturer information listed in Part 2 of each SPECTEXT® and SPECTEXT® II section, where applicable, has been revised and updated to coordinate with the updated manufacturer listings in the OUTLINE sections introduced in the May 2007 Update.

ICC International Building Code Updates
One of the benefits of subscribing to SPECTEXT® is receiving ongoing regular revisions and updates to your SPECTEXT® Library. Instead of updating a dozen or so sections every quarter and maintaining specifications on a five-year cycle, SPECTEXT®’s philosophy has been to globally revise and update all affected sections in all SPECTEXT® libraries whenever a code or standard change has occurred.
That’s the approach SPECTEXT® has taken with the ICC International Building Code.
Over 250 revised and updated sections that addressed the latest issue of IBC chapters relating to life-safety issues were issued in SPECTEXT® 5.1.
SPECTEXT® includes revised and updated sections reflecting the following chapters of the current ICC IBC codes. This update involved all affected SPECTEXT®, SPECTEXT® II and OUTLINE Sections and includes revising reference standards in SPECTEXT® to match the IBC codes and technical updates to be consistent with the standards. IBC Chapters covered in this update include:
IBC Chapter and Title Description
| Chapter 16 | Structural Design Design requirements, loads |
| Chapter 17 | Structural Tests and Special Inspections Special inspections, quality assurance plans, load tests, material and test standards |
| Chapter 18 | Soils and Foundations Footing and foundation materials, dampproofing, waterproofing, deep foundations |
| Chapter 20 | Aluminum Structural aluminum materials |
| Chapter 21 | Masonry Materials, quality assurance |
| Chapter 22 | Steel Structural steel, cold-formed, joists, welding bolting |
| Chapter 23 | Wood Materials, standards and quality |
| Chapter 24 | Glass and Glazing Materials, loads, sloped glass, safety glass, handrails and guards |
| Chapter 25 | Gypsum Board and Plaster Materials, installation |
| Chapter 26 | Plastic Insulation, finishes and trim, light transmitting plastics |
| Chapter 30 | Elevators and Conveying Systems Equipment, hoistways, venting, emergency operation |

SPECTEXT® MasterFormat™ 04 Conversion Tool Available
SPECTEXT® has completed development of a new EDITSPEC™ conversion tool to help SPECTEXT® subscribers convert their specification documents based on SPECTEXT® to the MasterFormat 04 and 95 Section format currently provided in the SPECTEXT® Libraries.
Subscribers can convert their company master specifications based on SPECTEXT® to the current SPECTEXT® format, which incorporates both MF04 and MF95 Section numbers and titles in one set of specification files.
It is estimated the new tool will reduce the subscriber's labor to 10% of the time required to convert a 500+-Section specification system manually. This could translate to a savings of up to $30,000 for each SPECTEXT® subscriber.
Contact your SPECTEXT® Representative, 1-877-773-2898 for a demonstration and pricing information.
SPECTEXT® MASTERFORMAT™ 04 VERSION AVAILABLE
SPECTEXT® users receive both the MF95 and MF04 versions of their Libraries as part of their subscription. Both versions are supplied in a single set of specification files with a new EDITSPEC™ tool that enables users to select the MF95 or MF04 numbering system with the touch of a toolbar button. Providing both numbering systems in a single set of files allows users to maintain one set of master files and will minimize duplication of efforts to modify Section content for project specifications as well as effort required to update and maintain an office master based on SPECTEXT®.
The SPECTEXT® MF04 version is provided to current subscribers at no additional cost. The current MF95 version of SPECTEXT® will be maintained and provided to current subscribers for the next few years to assist them with their gradual transition to MF04.
SPECTEXT® subscribers receive the SPECTEXT® Library Matrix and a comparative MF04/MF95 SPECTEXT® and SPECTEXT® II Table of Contents to aid them in locating the correct MF95 or MF04 Sections needed for their projects.
NEW EDITSPEC™ INSTALLATION PROCESS
EDITSPEC™ includes a new installation program that automatically installs EDITSPEC™ Section-editing Tools and features on licensed subscriber individual PCs, local area networks (LANs) and/or wide area networks (WANs).
The EDITSPEC™ toolbar and macros and SPECTEXT® Speller files are installed automatically to the appropriate locations and SPECTEXT® Sections and EDITSPEC™ supplementary documentation are installed on the subscriber’s hard drive to a directory specified by the user.
The SPECTEXT® Web Delivery System provides instant access to the user's SPECTEXT® Library, SPECTEXT® Updates, updated EDITSPEC™ installation programs and additional information useful to SPECTEXT® users.
